These chimneys were built in the 1920's or 30's. The stucco was re-done maybe in the 1970's. The new stucco didn't bond and was popping off in sheets.

Decorative horizontal band was falling apart. Bands were used for different reasons. Horizontal bands make the wall look longer. Sometimes, a band was used to hide different thicknesses of the wall. In this case, both reasons.

We filled in the wall with an honest 3/4" of mortar. Here the wall is rodded off with a 6 foot rod.
