Curved plaster stairway
in Middleburg, Virginia
Here's how we did it:
This old silo becomes a stair tower. Our stairs are inside.
Bull noses are tooled into the brown coat by holding a straight edge in one hand and running the bull nose with a water bottle.
The bullnoses, or round arrises, around the door opening. An arris is an outside corner in plastering.
A view from the top. These walls are straight and round. Curved stairways with drywall
usually look like a rippled potato chip when the light hits.
Cast moldings are cut through the fruit and leaves design.
Details are tooled in with molding plaster to create a seamless appearance.

Fired ceramic hollow clay tile was made by Natco corporation in the early 1900's.
The barn was torn down to build a house.
