Richard's House
Browning at Richard's
The two strips of mortar
at the top and bottom are
called screeds.
They are set with a straight-edge
to the wall thickness.
Then the wall is filled and rodded off
between the screeds.Darby-
This tool is called a darby.
It works on plaster like the float on cement stucco.(see previous progress) It leaves the surface neat, and packed down hard. Also, the darby has notches
to score the brown coat. This provides a good bond
for the finish coat.Q: Why is it called a darby?
A: I don't know. It was probably invented by someone
named Darby.White-coating-
Angle is put in rodded out.
Carlos checks to make sure
angle is straight.Ceiling is white coated
and troweled smooth as
glass.
This room is bigger than
