Lath and stucco replaced on a bridge
Washington, DC

Channel iron furring and framing, lath and stucco were removed.
⇉ SEE HOW WE DID IT ! ⇇

Three quarter inch channel iron is tied to the structural steel ribs, 8 inches on center, with stainless steel tie wire. This is called a double strand saddle tie.

Metal corner beads are set with a string line. Jet line is used because it doesn't sag.
You may have seen where I don't like to use corner beads for the exterior, even if they are rated for exterior use. in this case I am duplicating the original.

Brown coat is rodded off.

The finish coat is grey portland and masonry sand, like original. We used a concrete dye to match the original.

We capped the top with sheet aluminum. The original stucco had no metal coping, which is the main reason for failure. The pipes in the bridge rusted out.

Stucco scored to look like limestone blocks
in Fairfax, Virginia

Townhouse has Reston style stucco look paint sprayed on plywood. Paint is peeling off.

We put on metal lath and mortar 3/4 inch thick. The finish coat is white portland, white lime and white sand.

Finish is scored with a speed square using a level.

Looks like stone blocks. The house numbers and molding are held on with tape until the glue dries.
Swimming pool plastered
in Manassas, Virginia

We are using roll on pool plaster from Sider-Crete. A shade tent makes this possible.

Stucco repair
in Takoma Park, Maryland

The competition put on Hardy board and a thin layer of material that is peeling off. Wood trim was replaced.

We put on flashing over the windows and our standard lath and stucco.

The bottom of the pebble dash stucco had been patched several times and was in need of more patching. There was nothing to support the bottom.

A decorative band is made to hide and support the bottom. We used two by fours to support the lath and put on plaster stop to support the bottom.

The gap forms a nice drip edge preventing water from running back to the wall.

Finish is pebble dash with 3/8 inch pea gravel to match this 99 year old house.

No, we didn't do it, but it is interesting. We worked on this house 15 years ago, A plasterer lived here years ago and did a lot of cool stuff, inside and out.
