The largest cause of stucco failure is lack of kick out flashings.
Kick out flashing is tucked under the step flashing, then covered with an apron flashing.

Walls are rodded off with brand new 6 foot rods.

Color is made by mixing paint tint with acrylic and water in a garbage can.

One coat stucco replaced with REAL stucco
in Washington, DC
Nine year old one coat stucco by the competition rotted out the OSB sheathing.

OSB is replaced a little at a time and covered with house wrap.

New flashing and a layer of tar paper is put on. House wrap should never be used for stucco.

Stucco over cedar siding
in Bethesda
We covered the cedar siding with lath and stucco.
You may rememember we did the front of the house last Spring here...
New flashing, two layers of tar paper an self-furring metal lath.
Asphalt driveway is covered with plastic and correx. The mission is not to get a teeny drop of mortar on the asphalt.
We did the garage side and the far right wing.
Rock on, Pebble dash kings
Another large cause of stucco failure is stopped up and overflowing downspouts.
Old 1910 metal lath was still in good shape. One reason is because the stucco was extra thick. Another reason is the lath was made for exterior use.
